Interview Video: Shingo Kajimura, Ph.D., Recipient of 2024 Sable Award

Dr. Shingo Kajimura, recipient of the 2024 Sable Award for outstanding contributions to the field of metabolic physiology, was interviewed about receiving the award, the current state of metabolic physiology, and his experience at the recent Metabolic Physiology Meeting. The interview took place at the beautiful Sonesta Resort meeting venue on Hilton Head Island, SC.

On receiving the award, Dr. Kajimura stated “It’s incredible, such an honor, I am humbled.  I’m particularly honored to be recognized by my peers.  It really means a lot to me.”  Dr. Kajimura was presented with the award and $20,000 honorarium at the conclusion of the meeting.

When asked about the work being done by his lab, Dr. Kajimura said “We study bioenergetics in general physiology and in disease, and I see metabolism as the ultimate systems biology.  You see from molecular levels, cellular levels, organismal levels, and gain a unique comprehensive understanding of this.  For example, metabolic studies using Sable Systems – it’s really incredible to see what is captured, what is going on in animal physiology.”  Dr. Kajimura’ s complete interview can be seen in this video

The meeting organizer, Dr. Phillip White, stated that Dr. Kajimura will join past keynote speakers and Sable recipients on the panel that selects the recipient of next year’s Sable Award.  For more information about the 2025 Metabolic Physiology Meeting, please contact phillip.white@duke.edu.
